Secret Bases
The Secret base feature in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire is interesting. After you get TM 43 on Route 111, you can teach it to a Pokemon so when you see a hole in a rock wall, a weird bush, or a big tree that has a small vine that is hard to see at the top, you can use Secret Power to go in the hole and make the secret base yours. When you go inside, a menu will ask you if you want to keep the base. This secret base is not really really special, it's just like a little home for you. However, if you decide after some time to change secret bases, you may go over to the laptop in your hideout and select "Pack Up", all your items will be drawn into the Laptop, and you will go out of the base. "Pack Up" is basically just their fancy word for "clean up for me, toss this base, and I'll be happy". Unfortunately, you can only fit 16 items in it, but you can have themes like I do. I change to different kinds of decorations every so often, so I can use lots of decorations. For example, I have a Thunder mat to put my dolls out and I focus on Pikachu and Pichu by putting them in front and in the middle. I have a Pika cushion, a Pika poster, and any other Pika decor. But I want to use water Pokemon. So I take out my Surf Mat and Mudkip, Azurill, Marill, and Wailmer dolls. I put up a Blue poster and a water cushion. Any other water decor is taken out. This is very easy for me because money burns a hole in my pocket (even in this game), so it's simple to have many themes. Also, if you have a friend or a family member who has this game and has a Base too, you can switch data to visit your friend/family member's hideout in your game! If you have defeated the Elite 4, you can even battle your friend/family member after the link is disconnected! You only have to visit their Secret Base! If your friend/family member decides to change bases, you will still have the old base, for without being connected by the Game link, your Ruby/Sapphire version thinks your friend/family has the same base. In order to switch data, go to the Record Corner, which is where the Time Capsule was in Gold/Silver/Crystal. It's to the far right side of the upstairs in the PokeCenter, just go up the Escalator. Also, something fun that I've done with all my friends in both the Record Corner and the Trading Center, you can now in the trading/Record corner rooms, see where the other person is, so you can play...Tag! It's really fun, however dorky it sounds.
