The Noob rant
I cannot even begin to count how many times I have either been called a
noob, or have heard someone being called a noob. And to tell you the
truth, I am sick of it. OK, there are some people who may be newcomers.
I guess they might be noobs. But why call them a noob? It's a waste
of your time and their time. Plus, at least every time I've been called a
noob, it leads to a big argument and a lot of insults.
The stupid thing about people calling other people noobs is that sometimes they are really a noob themselves, or they shouldn't be talking. For example, a level 4 once called me a noob. Of course I told him that he shouldn't be talking. In response to that he claimed he had another account which could own me. I said yeah right and walked away.
Many cases are like this. I know some people who read this or those who don't think that there is nothing wrong with it. And sure, it isn't really a horrible thing to do. But it offends some people, like me, and it doesn't matter if it does offend someone; noob is not meant in a nice way. I can understand why people do it, however. They feel powerful because they are a high level and they feel great and mighty. Just because they have a reason doesn't mean that there isn't a problem with that.
My friends sometimes annoy me. Most of them are a higher level than me, and, they call me a noob. They can be nice, too, but ever since I started playing, they've been calling me either a noob, nooby, or a nooblet. Their rules are stupid, too. Their rules are;
Lv 10 and below=nooby
Lvs 11-30=nooblet
Lvs 31-50=noob
Lvs 51-60=choob
Lv 61 and higher=strong
Am I the only one who thinks that those are extremely stupid rules? You are not a noob at lv 50! You just aren't! Not to mention who would take the time to make those up? Once on the forums I heard some high-leveled snob saying "hmm...a non-noob is probably 70...80...90...probably 100..." or something similar. THAT IS THE STUPIDEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!
The most unfortunate part about this is that there is no way to stop it, unlike scamming, hacking, and offensive language. Jagex staff states that noob calling does not count as abuse. Personally, I think it should, because it does take some fun out of the game. The other thing is that Jagex says only to report if you are personally offended. Well, what if you're offended by being called a noob? I heard that for one day Jagex censored 'noob'. This may just be a rumor, but anyways, apparently, it didn't work well because everyone worked around it, such as choob. I don't think that's a good idea, but if they stopped it because of that, that means that they should stop censoring swears because EVERYONE spells around the censor.
